gas gauge and speedometer not working 700

Wow, great to have a supportive site like this. I just purchased a 740 8valve, seems like a good car. The gas gauge doesn't work nor does the speedometer. I read some messages re: the gas gauge, will give the suggestions a try, but what about the speedometer? Any suggetions.
