Downshift Cable

Does anyone have a good way to remove the metal band from the downshift cable? To make a long story short, the downshift cable is from a 240 and is now on my 940 and I need to adjust the cable sheath, but the metal band (?ferrule) is restricting the cable travel back into the sheath.
