rebuilt engine 1800 1968

My rebuilt engine died after only 28,000 miles. My new mechanic thinks it's the cam and that I have a rod bearing or bushing problem in one of the cylinders. He's not very excited about rebuilding this thing again and I don't want to give it up.
Does anyone know a competent rebuilder in the Tampa area? Please.
