OK, I have a hitch that fits my 544 - kind of!
It's obviously the right hitch, but it interferes with the center cection of the rear bumper. To mount it, I'd have to do one of two things; either cut the flat bottom-most (underside, not visible) area out of the bumper center section, or simply remove the whole center section and put some tabs on the hitch to mount the license plate where it belongs.
The hitch itself is extremely heavy, much more robust than a 'modern' style hitch. This is the hitch that requires some bolts and backing plates be installed through the tool tray; otherwise it slips onto the existing bumper mount bolts.
I don't like the thought about chopping up a perfect bumper section that I might not be able to afford to replace later...or even if I later remove the hitch, that bumper section would be very weak.
I thought I'd ask for some opinions; my personal preference is to remove the bumper section and store it, rather than to cut into it, even though you'd never see the cut area.
Your thoughts?
