Help modifying CR-814 radio from '91 740 ito fit '86 740 700

It should be "plug and play." I believe your 86 came stock with the td6141, which is interchangable with the cr814.

There will be a rectangular connector from the cars wiring harness that connects to the back of the cr814. From the cr814 there is a din connector (round six pin wire, and the larger of the two) that connect to the amp. From the amp there is another rectangular connector that leads to the speakers.

When the aftermarket radio was installed, the amp was probably bypassed and the speaker output from the radio connected directly to the speaker wires down by the amp. Hopefully they did not cut out the rectangular speaker wire connector at the amp.

Sorry if this is poorly worded or confusing...


The cr814 will control an alpine changer, and has an internal amp for an additional pair of speakers...
