You have to push the button in a loooong way. I use my smallest Phillips screwdriver. The button pushes a flexible rod of some kind that runs inside a tube all the way across to the back of the speedometer, where it flips a tiny switch. If all else fails, you will have to stand on your head and reach up to flip the switch directly.
