My 93 244 turned 50,000 today: looking forward to many more miles 200

WOW. Well, my first suggestion would have to be that you get it broken in. LOL @ 50k I'm not sure it's past it's break in miles! I've yet to own a Volvo with that few miles, hope ya have it for many, many moons to come.

First off, the major thing for me is quality. Don't skimp on parts, lubricants, etc. If you buy the good stuff right off, then you'll end up with a much better value in the long run. I'm a firm believer in quality parts for my Volvos. Note that the most expensive products are not always the best. The board is a great place to check brands and such prior to purchase.

Second. Care: The harder you keep to the regular care items in time and milage, the less wear on their respective parts and the longer the car will last. Keep the underbody and engine bay clean. As you clean regularly, you notice small problems before they become large problems and can be taken care of. For me, the biggest thing is keeping check on the cooling system. The most common cause of engine failure that I run across is overheating due to loss of coolant. The distilled suggestion is an excellent one.

Lastly, keep spares in the vehicle @ all times. The common relays, belts, etc. It's not a direct means to keeping your brick healthier longer, but it will save you much stress and perhaps some anger induced damage (the second most common 'all round' cause of much of the damage I see on Volvos).

Most importantly, enjoy your brick..... many here would practically kill to get their hands on a 240 with that few miles!

Happy Brickslinging,
Frank
