Timing Gear, V6 700 1989

Hi I have an '87 760 with the B280F with 250k+ miles.

When you have the valve covers off you can check the condition of the timing chain. At least on the left hand side the tensioner is visible. It is only allowed to extend 8mm (or 4 notches) i think. From what I have read the lifespan of these chains is around 200k miles although I don't think i have read anything about failures.

The last guy to do a valve adjustment (a few weeks ago) said the chains appeared to be in good shape. I plan on inspecting these myself this weekend.

If you have not already done so I would replace all of the coolant hoses including the short ones connecting the water pump. I recently had 2 hoses and an o-ring (for the y-pipe under the intake manifold) fail on me. My new hobby is coolant hoses and o-rings along with throttle body cleaning.
