Looking for an overdrive solenoid. 700

Do you know if the solenoid works? If it does, I found that a 35mm plastic film container with a slot cut out for the wire fits nicely over the solenoid after picking the old cap off gently. A bit(lot) of sealer and a zip tie to clamp it on till the silicone sets up. I have only fixed one like this, but it is approaching 30K miles since repaired and is still sealed and working fine. 35mm film "cans" vary in size some, so you might try to find a couple of different ones.
The car (87 740) came with a brand new Volvo solenoid in the glove box because the OD didn't work (wiring)and the PO was told that the solenoid was bad. It is still in the package and in the spares drawer.
Our "new" 765 has the same crumbling cover and will get the film can treatment since the OD works fine. My new FREE soleniod will stay in the drawer.
Cheap fix if the cap is rotten and the solenoid still works. Good luck, rcs
