Weird Hum in my 1990 740, Also a Rex Ragina question??? 700 1990

"...Also, there should be a big dead weight bolted to the firewall behind the head - make sure this is secure. It's job is to serve as a vibration damper - if it gets loose, it becomes a vibration amplifier..."

I've owned the same car for 11+ years and never noticed the "dead weight". (Well, when I'M driving the car, some people would say there's about 225 lbs of dead weight on board.) Is that something that might contribute to the in-gear idle vibes that I occasionally experience?
