alternator wiring 200

im just confused because now the battery light stays on all the time now, without the key in the ignition, so i am quite unsure of what to do. i got the alternator from advance auto parts. took me a while to get it off and on with the limited tools i had. two wires for b+ and one for D+ and one plugs to the engine for the oil light. soo what should i do to ensure a better connection? i only took off the two metal flat pieces with the holes in them. that went on both of the posts they didnt look important and the old alternator didnt have them. even if the alternator is bad, the light should still go off because all this is indicating is a connection, not charging. right?
