Alternator 200 1988

Just had this problem yesterday.

Are you using a NAPA remanufactured alternator. I took off the bracket on the alternator it looked like some sort of plactic apparatus because it would not let me line up the wires neatly and I got the same problem you had with the battery light (it must be some sort of insulator). After putting it back on it worked correctly and the batery light turned off. I also took the ground off the bracket on the block then then attached it and I was ok.

good luck
