Found a link with a complete writeup of replacing the mechanical voltage regulator with an electronic one. Very simple once you find the parts. The 10V regulator is not so common, usually you get 9V or 12 V, but 10V does exist. This link saves me writing it up. Good old internet...

If you have trouble finding the regulator, I can have a go at locating it for you.

Note this is only for the newer style dash, the older style dash uses 5.1V (there is a LM7805 regulator available that's 5.0V, close enough).
