Volvo History: the Difference between a 122S Wagon vs. P200 Wagon? 120-130

Regarding earlier Volvo model numbering systems, I'll quote Ulysses Everett McGill(AKA George Clooney)in Oh Brother Where Art Thou? "It's a fool who looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart". I understand internal factory numbering of chassis and so forth, but how do we get from 445 to 210 to 220?
Is rampant alchoholism still a problem in Sweden? Oh, well, at least Volvo is pretty good about putting part numbers on everything. Has anyone ever seen a dash clock which was found on the really early (B-16) Amasons*? I once found a chromed handbrake loop on an early car, where the usual one is black plastic.
It's now on my '69 1800.

(that's how they originally spelled it, I've heard)
