Hello Ian:

Buying a couple sockets at a time usually doesn't pay. You can get stuck precisely the way you described with your 740. See if there is a Harbor Freight where you live-- you can buy excellent 12-14 pc 1/2" 6pt deep impact socket sets for ~$20 and a breaker bar for about another $10. If you do your own work (even occasionally) these will pay for themselves in no time.
