Weber Carb. runing rich? 444-544

I have a 62 PV 544 with a B-18 engine. I have a 32/36 DGV carburater on it that is running extremely rich. What can be done to lean it out? I have already played with the idle richness mixture screw on it. I have heard that over time the floats may absorb moisture letting too much fuel into the bowls? Has anyone come across this? I think im going to re-build the whole thing with new gaskets and misc. I hope this will solve it.
