Auto. Trans. shifting problem from 1st to 2nd gear. 200 1988

My '88 245 A/T with 109K has difficulty shifting from 1st to 2nd gear but only when hot. In the morning, when car is cold, all gears shift silky smooth. But when hot, it tends to not want to go into 2nd and when it does, it shifts very abruptly at a higher than normal RPM. I've been letting off the gas pedal a bit to help it go into 2nd. The only transmission work was done by a local Volvo dealer 2 years ago (oKAY, I treated myself, was the middle of winter and no garage) when they installed a new kickdown cable and of course, changed the tranny's fluid and filter. A leaking seal was also replaced in the trans. tail. The fluid level is where it should be. The fluid smells okay but is not bright red. It's more of a murky brownish red.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Mark
