K10042 Speedo Issue 200

Do any of the Volvo gurus out there know of a good reason why
the speedometer (K10042) on my 1989 240 would stop working but the odometer and trip meter continue to work fine. Is there a quick and dirty solution to this problem? I tried replacing the entire Instrument Panel with another from a 1987, but the odometer and temp gauge were bad, so I put it back.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

-CoolVolvo- 1982 240 5 Spd w/ 227K, 1989 240 w/ 214K. Used to have 1966 122, 1968 144, 1970 145, 1972 144, 1980 245
