Why does my driver seat work intermittently? 900

Dear Paul,

Good p.m. and hope this finds you well. You might have - in addition to the cable problem - a concurrently failing master relay (in the seat computer) or a switch. The relay or switch will produce erratic operation, and the cable problem will mean one-sided joy, at best.

If you need to pull the seat, be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable clamp from the battery terminal, before removing the seat. This cuts the power supply to the airbag sensor, under the driver's seat. If the sensor is banged or thumped, it could trigger the airbag. An airbag deployment at close range is dangerous - even lethal - and is also expensive. A replacement airbag is about $1K.

Hope some of this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
