smoking pcv unit 700

I was hoping you all could tell me why huge amounts of smoke and generous amounts of oil would be coming out of the pcv connection under the intake on the driver side of the block. As soon as the car is started, cold, it begins smoking out of that hole ( I have the hose disconnected because it has soaked everything I mean EVERYTHING with oil on the turbo side. The turbo has been replaced but there are many bad hoses. My main problem is the smoke and oil however. The car runs good, and evenly, so I doubt it is blowby. But it could be. I have a feeling he drove it with the wastegate hose all fubar'ed and may have overloaded the engine.

1987 Volvo 740 Turbo automatic.

thanx!
