Hi all,

Weird problem with my '87 760t. I discovered a leak in a coolant hose of about one inch in diameter (the hose, not the leak) that ends in a valve just next to the auto tranny fluid dipstick, and then continues directly into the firewall.

1: what the heck is that valve?

2: All I did was slice the broken part of the hose off (the leak was right at the clamp and sprayed warm coolant a few feet into the air when the engine wasn't running) and reattatch it to the valve. Problem solved. Right?

3: Wrong. I must've goofed something up under there, because now, whenever the engine is under boost, the air stops coming out of the panel vents, and moves to the defrost ones. What hose did I poke a hole in? Are there any hoses under there in that area (near the tranny dipstick) that I could've damaged (working with sharp objects as I was) that would cause this problem? I'm pretty sure my check valve is okay...

I'm asking because I'd rather know what I'm going for than have to search for it; it's a mess on that side of the engine due to a wily oil dipstick (also fixed recently).
