I used an after market motor, but the install was similiar to the FAQs. You are correct. You leave the original in place, sounds like you have the link connected in the right spot. Then you need to pull wires for the new motor from the remote control unit. I would dry run the power to it and check it. I had to go back into my door several months later and readjust the link arm. It wouldn't pull down far enough to activate the factory switch that locks the other doors.
