Wheel Question 700

I recently purchased a 87 740 Turbo. Nice car, 128K, runs well but the wheels are giving me concern. It has the five spoke alloys.

Symptom is that the steering wheel shakes back and forth about 1/4 to 1/2 inch at 60 mph and up. Under that I don't notice much shake. I've had new tires installed and had the wheels balanced twice. The installer indicate that he found a bent rim and since the spare is also bent we moved the 2nd bent rim to the rear. I've had the front end aligned and it didn't make much difference.

Any suggestions on how to further diagnose this.... I'm thinking I should just spring for a set of steel wheels from TireRack but hate to spend the $ if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Pete
