9 times out of 10, you can heat the bearing's center with a torch and get it off, without any major damage being found on the shaft. If so, ya just take a metal polishing wheel and a die tool to it.

You may have a good trans shop though and it may be beyond repair. Who knows, but I've never seen one so bad I couldn't save it.

As to your question, some shops get and keep the info, others don't. Were it me & I was going to have it replaced, I'd call around to some salvage yards and get prices and milage. Often you can get the trans cheaper your self and know what you're getting. The reasoning to give the trans tech, is that you know what you're getting with the one you found.

All this rambeling on may or may not be of help to ya, but you're right, it's a tough trans.
