Rotary conversion? and general ramblings 140-160

Hi All,

I have been searching for a suitable donor car for my B230E or B230FT swap into my '69 142, my criteria: it must be relatively low mileage and a manual (5spd or 4+OD). Unfortunately manual cars, especially turbos (there were NO factory delivered 240 turbos in australia, so I have to look at 7 or 9 series) are very hard to find, they are either way over budget or very high mileage (as volvo's tend to be).

Anyway back to my post, has anyone done or heard of a rotary conversion done to a 120, 1800, 140 or even 240. Photos and description would be great, have been thinking way outside the square and down here in Australia rotary power is popular in certain circles and a low mileage (around 70,000kms) TURBO half cut (which includes basically everything needed except for maybe fuel pump) delivering 190kW stock can be had in the region of A$2300 delivered to my door which is approx US$1725, which is about what I would be paying for a very high mileage volvo turbo. There are several other options but the small 140 engine bay would accept this midget of an engine happily.

Some people may hate rotaries but I believe they are mis-understood engines that were unfairly killed by the fuel crisis of the 70's and a general public scared of something so radical. I think a misunderstood rotary and misunderstood volvo would go nicely together plus I would love to go around and DESTROY volvo haters at the lights AND around corners (the rotary is an extremely light engine). I don't know how it is in the US but lots of people really dislike volvos over here (aus) with a passion, as soon as they see a volvo (especially 140's and 240's) they already have their hand on the horn or middle finger primed for the first slight indiscretion on the volvo driver's part.

I did not plan for this to be my manifesto but now that I have started............
I have driven volvo's since I could drive (9 years now! where have the years gone?), I have also driven sevral fast cars along the way (but always had at least 1 volvo), these other cars include:
- an Australian R/T Charger with 4.3litre straight 6, triple webers, 5spd tremec gearbox, custom LSD 9" disc brake diff LSD and 3.7 gears, painted factory vitamin C (bright orange) with factory black racing stripes, this thing FLEEEEEEW
- a Black Chevrolet Camaro 1984 Z28, 305 V8/5spd this thing also FLEEEEEW

Anyway my point is, in these cars basically everyone that would see you coming would get the f*%^ out of the way, no kidding 9 times out of 10 the blinker would go on and they would get out of your way. The volvo on the other hand, as soon as people see a volvo they go completely insane, they would block your way any chance they would get even if you were driving a lot faster than they were. Honk irrationally, lose their temper and try and road-rage you immediately, pop the middle finger randomly out of the window, tailgate you even if you were going 20kph over the limit, be psychotically driven to overtake you at any cost, I could go on...........

Does anyone else find this or is it just my bubbly personality that draws these insane asylum escapees to me.

Cheers,

Daz
