REPOST: Air Conditioning cuts out under load 700

I asked the following question a couple weeks ago:
"We recently aquired a 91 740. I've noticed that the air conditioning runs very strong. However whenever the engine is under heavy load, such as strong acceleration or going up a hill the A/c cuts off. The fan still blows, just not very cold. Is this some sort of strange Volvo way of diverting power to the engine or something?"

I got very different opinions about whether or not the 91 B230F had any kind of wide open throttle cut out or not, but no one ever had a definitive answer. I thought I'd post again. I do not have the turbo, and the fan continues to blow air, just not cold air, under load. Is it a WOT switch cutting out the compressor, is it something else defective, or is it supposed to do that?

Thanks in advance.
