Bronze Valve Guides 444-544

Before he went to work on my engine, I suggested to my machinist that he replace the cast iron guides with bronze ones if they needed replacement. He replied that if they were worn, he'd simply fit them with bronze sleeves, which he claimed was cheaper and just as good, and his normal practice on the race car engines he usually works on. As it turned out, they didn't need replacing. I've read just about all the earlier BB post on the pros and cons of bronze guides, but found no reference to the sleeving procedure. Has anyone had any experience with it? I'm asking because I'll will be taking him another head to work on, and the issue is likely to come up again.
