M46 aluminum case 700

Ok guys here is a question I cant find the answer to. When did Volvo decide to go with aluminum for the M46 transmission? Im in the process of cleaning up my drivetrain and never gave it a thought of what the transmission was made of until I pulled it out without a floor jack. Now my previous bricks have all been iron boxes and never once had a problem with them, how is this box going to hold up to a turbo-intercooled diesel with modified prechambers and 16 PSI boost (about 260hp/300ft-lb)? It looks thick enough and all but I wonder about the cluster gear bearings at the end trying to egg shape the support holes.

Would this be a canadate for an iron box or will it hold aganst my nasty diesel?
The diesel will hold up Im sure but I dont want any nasty suprises or a trail of gears following me.

Thanks guys
