Sharp jolt in and out of reverse 200 1988

Your cars computer has a built in "constant idle system" (CIS) that should control the idle. The screw is just a rough inital setting. It could be a number of things, but I would my first guesses would be the temp sensor or the CIS motor. If you want to service this yourself you should get a manual like Bentley that has diagrams and diagnostics for this system.
