Rubbing noise at speeds above 60 700

That is very interesting. I am experiencing the same thing with my 86 740. I can ecpecially hear it when I pass a wall on the freeway and the sound reflects back.
I thought about what it could be and I remenbered that one of the radiator brackets was missing that holds the radiator to the car just under the hood on top, one on each side. I thought maybe the force of the air at high speeds was causing the radiator and shroud on that side to move towards the cooling fan at high speeds and the fan was grindng on the shroud. I took a look at the shroud and sure enough
there are wear marks on it as if the fan blade was gouging it at some point. As of yet, I have not fixed the mount and checked it again, but if you have front end damage as you say, you might have a busted top mount as I do causing that weird hight speed thwapping at 60 MPH as I do. Let me know if your radiator is loose on top as mine is, I would be intersted to know.

86' 740GLE, a $600 miracle car.......
