Auto tranny filter screen thing 200

There was a procedure posted a while back for changing tranny fluid that I will use on my son's car. First flush with the cheep-o stuff to dissolve and clean the gunk deposit build ups. After a 1000? more miles flush with a synthetic AFT fluid. This way the expensive synthetic fluid starts off clean and will stay clean longer. After the shock of paying over $60 for a case of synthetic, $10 for a case of Costal for a "pre-clean" doesn't even make me blink.

There has been many testimonials on the board claiming synthetic fluid "fixed" their transmission problems. It is supposed to extend the tranny life.

I have real doubts that Costal, Walmart, and other cheep-o brands aren't the same as the big brand names. They all have to meet the Dextron specification and they all probably come out of the same vat. This of course does not include synthetic fluid.

I tried to take the pan off my 900 and gave up after getting only a half turn in the PB soaked filler tube nut, during a two hours attempt. I would have taken the filler tube bolts off if I had known at the time. I prefer cleaning the barking gunk from inside the pan, cleaning the fuzz off the magnet, and in the case of AW70s transmissions, at least check the screen filter. Some folks on the board say the pans are usually clean, though. The pan gasket I ordered from FCP Groton came with a "free" filter.

If you do remove the filler tube nut, Steve had suggested using an anti seize on the threads before reassembly.
