Transmission Fluid: What's the Difference between Type F and Dexron III 200

There are friction and viscosity differences.........in a nutshell Dexron = GM and Type F = Ford.

Some Dexron trannies will do fine on F, but NOT the other way around.

NOT ALL Volvo's use Type F. Early models did. What year is your car? Does the drain pan have a drain bolt? Volvo used BW trannies early that require F, as did the early AW's - mid 83 or so on all use the latest version of Dexron. (It's backwards compatible)

As a side note early trannies can and are rebuilt and use Dexron.
