HELP DUMB TRANSMISSION LEAK & ? 200 1984

Make absolutely sure it is the gasket by cleaning everything off on the lower side of the transmission and then carefully watching where the first sign of fluid shows up. Reclean and double check if necessary to pinpoint the origin of the leak- are you certain it is not the filler/dipstick tube attachment point?? If it is in the perimeter of the pan as you suspect perhaps the area that is leaking is not flat- sometimes they can distort (especially around the bolt holes) and not put uniform pressure on the gasket allowing gaps to leak. Carefully flatten suspect areas with hammer taps.
