dimwit seeks advice on bulbs 200 1982

Hello all,

Am conducting various elektrical repairs on old house (100+yrs) and 2 240s one from '81, other from '83. Was able to skip college physics as I was a French major...but have always had decent "intuitive" understanding of electricity and as I and the krud I own get older I figure it helps to be more knowlegeable than less.

Peoples the world over have different attitudes toward electricity. Have been in States most of life but was in France two years. Thinewires there, hardly anything fused or grounded it seemed. Low consumption relative to here, though.

Same 220V house current cross the channel in UK, yet even table lamps had thick gauge wires and enormous three prong plugs. The plugs themselves were actually fused, I think. Unscrew two halves, find a glass hi/fi-type jobbie in there.

I digress. These 240s have come to us with enuff incorrect bulbs to make me grab the owners manuals. I'm on p.68 of an '82 manual.

No. 67 bulb, 5w is correct for front side marker lights. I have in there what seems "modern" equivalent, sylvania/osram (French co that owns them?) no. 5007. Glass part is more oblong than round but I think it's the same bulb. Same Watt rating at least.

No. 1073 bulb is correct for turn signal, is much larger and higher watt (21) rating though w/same base. I have 1156s in their place, they work but can't remember why I didn't get 1073s cuz I've been down this street before.

I think the 1156 draws a fraction of an amp more, might be a bit brighter but I doubt it. Searched a web "bulb locator" or three and got conflicting info.

We're contemplating buying four new lenses for these fixtures and would like the right bulbs, too hot is bad for wires and plastic.

BTW should I be concerned about newfangled halogen sealed beam headlights in these cars? I understand the halogens draw more juice, is the wiring being pushed esp. as it's twenty yrs old? I assume both an '81 and an '83 came with non-halogen units.

Though assumptions aren't always wise....
