'81 240DL Main Fuel Pump.. 200

...I think I have just about isolated my No-Start problem to a faulty main fuel pump.

When I short the left side of fuse 7 to the left side of fuse 5 with fuse 5 removed with a digitial ammeter the pump turns on and draws about 2.2A.

This is the main pump current only and according to my Haynes it should be around 6.5A.

I'm gonna do the same test on a co-workers 240 Wagon this afternoon and see what I get but I pretty sure I'm gonna see a significant difference.

That being said...

I have checked AutoZone and they want around $235 for a main pump.

Does anyone know of a source where I can get a cheaper (e.g. less expensive) pump for that car?

Does anyone know if the pump from another vehicle will work that may be less expensive?

Anyone got one on a parts car?

All info concerning the operational characteritics of the pump and where a pump may be procurred will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rick
