Bad Synthetics and oil changes

Question One: Most people think of Mobile One for a synthetic motor oil. What about the Wal-Mart or Cheif Auto in house brands? Is the worst synthetic better than the best of the real McCoy?

Question Two: Now that I'm a turbo owner I realize a greater need for clean oil.
The factory said 5000 mi. on my old GL but I changed every 3500 mi. With Mobile one and a Mann filter what is the longest I should drive in a turbo charged car?
Someone suggested I change my filter every 3000 mi. and top it off. Letting the oil or most of it not lost in the filter change go 6000. I have other people tell me they change every 2500. Mobile one every 2500 seems a little pricey! The blends don't tell me how much syn is blended. 10%? 20%? I know it's not 50%!
So there must be a medium here. Buy the oils 50/50 and get the best of both worlds? I just thought I would add more rambling thoughts to the contoversy.
