Intermittent cut out while accelerating 700 1988

Check air intake tube from AMM to Throttle body. They get weak with heat/oil/time and can collapse under vacuum. Also they are not reinforced.

My '88 would run fine up to 2800 RPM then quit like someone turned off the switch. It would start immediately. Happened only in hot weather at first but, after a year of this annoying behavior it kept getting worse.. The way I found the problem was by leaving the key on while the darn thing was gasping for air. I opened the hood and saw that the entire tube was collapsed.

The Volvo part is about $40. The 2-7/8 diameter steel reinforced jobby from Advanced Auto cost me $8.00. I slipped it inside the old one and mystically-magically no more cutting out.

It's worth a couple of bucks to try the fix!
