Hello:

Here are a report regarding '86 760T AC overhaul and a question. From your post, I went to the links and learned about AC black death and its remedies. Following instructions, I took AC apart after I had it emptied of R12 at a local shop. Sure enough, the inside of hoses, lines and condenser were coated with black (Teflon?) dirt. Following instructions to change everything forward of the firewall, and lacking an air compressor or other equipment for the alternative to clean aluminum lines or other parts, I have ordered everything brand new genuine Volvo from Swedish Engineering: high pressure hose from compressor to condenser, aluminum line that follows, condenser, two aluminum lines between condenser and evaporator, R12 to R134 conversion kit, supplementary kit line from receiver to evaporator, hose from receiver to compressor. Aluminum lines from Volvo are expensive, but those on the car were bad and I could not find another supplier. I also bought from SE a new Seltec AC compressor for R134. That compressor was in the car, but do you know whether it is any good? I also bought a new evaporator. I still have to get a "severe duty" (I am in a tropical island) VOV and the Airsept screen. However, I find only an Airsept professional kit with many screens for about $80. Do you know how or where I can get the one screen I need? It seems wasteful and expensive to buy the whole kit. As it is, I have already spent over $1,000 in parts alone. For this much money and labor, I hope to freeze my butt in the car. BTW, after reading about AC black death resulting from Teflon coating from compressor inner parts clogging condenser, thereby trapping lubricant in the condenser, and leading to a vicious cycle of accelerated compressor wear, it occurs to me this could be prevented with maintenance. That is, a periodic opening and flushing of condenser and AC lines with a cleaning agent and compressed air, followed by a long vacuum and new oil and gas put it. Brickster could do this themselves for about $50-75. This would be much cheaper that a complete overhaul like, cheaper also than repeated or premature compressor failure from not doing a complete overhaul after the black death. In fact, I think I will try this flush and replenish gas and oil AC maintenance on the '95 60. It should be overdue for one. What do you think? As always, I appreciate your comments and help very much. Best regards.
