service light 900

the wife has a '96 960 and the light is coming on for its 2 minute interval. the owners manual says that it is coming on due to it being passed scheduled manitenance. all needed work was done about 3-4K early so nothing has been/is neglected. the wife says that it 'just doesn't seem to be right' but i don't noticed anything. i do know how to reset the light. my question is: can i check the codes by the key?? some cars i can turn the key on ad off a few times and a light will blink the code in the system. can i do that with her car??

thanks for the help,
Bubba
