'check engine' light with no symptoms...problem? 200 1993

My friend's "Check Engine" light went on while she was sitting in the car wash (inside the car) this morning. She noticed no problems driving. My Volvo Guy says that those lights are sometimes (always?) timed to come on at certain intervals, and if she notices no symptoms all is likely well with the car and that the light can be reset.

car has about 145K on it.

Any dissenting opinions?
