Car is dead!

My wifes car ran out of gas now it won't start at all! I added over a gallon of gas and tried to start the car, the starter solenoid clicked and the starter engaged but wouldn't start the engine(the started sounded weak). Waited a few hours tried to restart, the starter solenoid clicked, no action in the starter. Is my wifes starter fried, maybe the connections? Is there something I am overlooking?
