There is a way to drill holes and lube the bearings. I just did is on My '80 2 weeks ago. Could really see they were dry. The bearings are really bushings not ball bearing in cages, so when they get dry the seize on the shaft. All the need is a little drop of oil.

HOWEVER. This only works on older Volvos--pre '81 with open armature motors. The newer motors have a covered armature and bearings.
