As in windscreens (windshields on this side)?

Who, where, when has roof mounted aerials? Would these be mounted center?front of roof? Does one have to remove headliner to fish across and down pillar to underdash? I also presume it would slope back to reflect the angle of the windshield. How long an aerial would this be? Which manufacturer would have made this (Lucas?) Any currently marketed cars with this aerial fitted? Any retractables?
