Voltage surges 200 82

Hi,

My 1982 240DL (non turbo) is exhibiting a strange electrical behavior. Occasionally (every 5-10min) the seatbelt warning light flashes on and off. Coinciding with this, the headlights and dash lights will get extra bright for a few seconds.

Seems to indicate something goofy with the alternator, but I usually just hear about alternators slowly dying and failing to charge. I'll take a peak at the voltage readings adn I was going to have the alternator out this weekend and perhaps get it over to an auto exectrical shop for checkout. It has an internal style Bosh regulator.

Any chance that some decaying harness type short could be the culpret? Anyone else out there every see something like this?

Thanks!

Greg
