old snow tires as summer tires? 700 1985

I have a pair of older snow tires (still good, just not great) on my 745t that I'm currently planning on replacing with new snows. My qustion is whether I can just use the old snow tires for the summer, and what the performance effects might be?

I used them this summer and noticed that, while the dry performance is great, the rain performance leaves something to be desired. However, I'm not sure if this is a factor of my driving style or the tires. What if anything about snow tire design might make them perform badly on slick wet roads? Is there a difference between the channeling/grip for rain and for snow?

Any help would be apprciated, I just don't have a solid knoweldge of the various elements of tire design and would like to understand what I'm dealing with.

Thanks,

Rick
