How to Install Tachometer in '88 240DL? 200 88

I have an 88 240DL with a Clock on the Dash.

I'd like to know:

What is the Cheapest Way too put a Tach In?

What is the Easiest Way too put a Tach In?

What is Needed to "Signal" the Engine RPMs To a Tach?

I was thinking that Buying a new Off-the-Shelf, Auto-parts Tach and Pod Mounting It would be the easiest way. However, I dont know how the Engine RPM is determined. Can Coil Voltage be used to "read" engine RPM?
