DOH!! forgot to mark which way the rods go 700 87

Sure enough I got so absorbed in finding out whether or not I had a busted compression ring I forgot to note which way the rods go in relation to the piston. In a B23 do the stamped numbers face the intake side or exhaust side of the engine or to put it another way, do the numbers face the layshaft or not?

Please help!!
