Smooth, but lack of power 200 84

Cousins:

I bought a '84 245 (B23f motor, Auto trans, 94K miles) a couple of months ago and since then have done a lot of work on it to get it up to my specs. It starts from cold on the first turnover, and runs smoothly.

Work done on motor:

• injector seals (immediate smoother running)

• Major tuneup (plugs, rotor, cap, wires)

• Throttle body vat cleaned, new seals and gaskets

• Rewired engine compartment harness

• New temp sensor (LH)

• Set timing

• Checked fuel pressure (right on spec)

After the above, the motor ran a lot smoother, but after it warms up, the idle is high - about 1500 - 2000 RPM in Park or Neutral. Adjusting the idle screw (plastic on throttle body) all the way in still results in high idle.

I checked the AMM with a VOM, and it checked out OK. I checked the Oxygen Sensor at the blue/white wire and got ambiguous results. The Idle Speed Regulator checked out with the VOM.

I'm thinking of taking the intake manifold off and replacing the gasket and the flame trap hoses, etc., but a check with a propane torch didn't reveal anything.

I was happy with the resultant performance (except the high idle), until I purchased another 245 ('85 B230; auto; 150K miles), and when I got that one going, it had a lot more power/torque, so I guess I have missed something on the '84.

I'm planning a replacement of the timing belt and tensioner soon and a valve adjustment as regular maintenance proceedures, but my feeling is that the idle/low power problem lies in the oxygen sensor or the idle speed regulator or the knock sensor. Any ideas?
