The commercials for the VW and Lexus are from Pro Rally events. As far as getting up close and personal to one, there are actually a few in the Northeast, in upstate NY, PA and Maine. Check SCCA.ORG for ProRally events & dates...

my father and I are entering our 3rd year of ProRally events, running a 1980 242 GT, prep'd for Group 2.
