I dont know how (with voltmeter or testlamp) you made the measurement which found "no juice" at the primary, plus you didn't mention the state of the points (open or closed), so there's not enough info for me to comment on.

The fastest way to check your coil for output is to disconnect wire from points(ignition on, coil output wire laid (with a sparkgap) on ground), touch coil(points) wire to ground and release...you should get a spark at the sparkgap everytime you BREAK the connection.
